Forum: forums Subject: Underscores-How to correctly add additional metadata fields

Hi, I am new to IA and a bit rusty on metadata in general, and I'm having some trouble understanding how to add additional metadata fields.

For example, this listing:

https://archive.org/details/newspapersperiod00inscot

contains several customized fields that I would like to include in my college newspaper uploads, such as "Full catalog record," "Digitizing sponsor," and there are others.

When I enter as a test key "call_number" in my file, it appears correctly as "Call number" with a space, but when I enter "full_catalog_record" or "digitizing_sponsor," those appear with hyphens in the place of the underscores. Why is this?

Also, can I include a link in HTML in a value field?

Thank you for your response; I know that this issue has been touched on in the past but I was unable to find an answer that was specifically helpful to me.

call_number is a pre-existing field so it is painted on the page with a space. the others are not so they are painted as keyed in. keys cannot have spaces and underscores and hyphens remain as keyed in.

most fields to not allow html. the description field does allow it.

Thank you, I thought "call number" might be a common, thus preexisting, key. So I understand the principle, but why can the above listing/link for Illinois newspapers and periodicals have these additional fields without hyphens, as well as the link for the catalog record, up above the description with the other preexisting fields? Other files have them as well.

Thanks.

all those metadata fields are available to you as well.
